Lebanon and Off, Hand Drawn Animation. 2007

Lebanon and Off

I created this animation for the Glasgow electronic/instrumental band 'Beaches Of The Proud'.

Inspired by the track 'Lebanon and Off' from the album 'Veils' (2006) i wanted to produce a dreamlike video which has a simplistic narrative based around conflict.

This video was included as part of a limited edition DVD accompaniment to the 2007 release of the album titled 'The Truth Always Follows Me Around'

Natural Unnatural, Stop Motion Animation. 2005

Natural Unnatural

This music video was created using Magic Trees, and a small set which I made using modelmakers grass and bright blue card for the sky.

The magic trees were filmed for a few seconds every 15 minutes for 11 hours. I later edited the footage and used 'My Angel Rocks Back And Forth' a song by Four Tet, whose album 'Rounds' works on loops not only in each track itself, but through the album as a whole.

Ruthless Traffic, Digital Video. 2006

Ruthless Traffic

I was in a dark mood at the time of filming, and i wanted to capture and exaggerate this through the use of a suitable soundtrack. I later came across the electronic musician Amon Tobin , and the soundtrack for the computer game 'Splinter Cell Chaos Theory' I found the the track 'Ruthless' to be perfect, and also the sharp, fast speed for synchronisation and for manipulating movement in the video.

I tried different edits of the footage in Video Installation's 'Between' and at the 'Skinflick' club night.

What You Don't Do Right, Digital Video. 2006

What You Don't Do Right

This is not strictly speaking a music video consisting only of one song, instead it is a mixture of ambient noise and part of a song. The music i used is a track called 'Special Cases' by Massive Attack off their album '100th Window' The video i made was one of the first investigations i made of the relationship between video and music, this was reedited and recontextualised by use in Video Installations.

How i came to make videos:

Music has always been of huge importance to me and my work. I learnt how to play violin and piano whilst i was at primary school, and learnt the basics of drawing and painting around this time. At school i had to choose between studying art or music, and so such music fell by the wayside for several years whilst an obsession with art started in my teenage years, fuelled by a keen interest in discovering new music which snowballed and hasn't stopped.

Halfway through studying for my degree i started to explore the relationship between music and art.

This manifested itself in the form of several experiments exploring the physicality of sound, videos and installations looking at the relationship between music and image and installations using outdated audio and video equiptment.

I also worked for a few years working as a live music reviewer and photographer for the magazine 'is this music?' At the same time i conducted and my first experiment with video, stop motion animating several magic trees growing. This resulted in the installation, and music video 'Natural Unnatural'.
